Q: Who is Citizen Arcane and why is he blogging? If it even is a "he".
A: Citizen Arcane is a mystery man, a cipher, an enigma, a conundrum. Ok, ok, you can trivially track him down; he really doesn't care that much. If he did, he would have taken greater pains to conceal his identity.
Q: Uh, you didn't answer the question.
A: Shrug. Does it matter?
Q: Guess not. So why do it, then?
A: I blog, therefore I am.
Q: Surely there has to be more to it than this?
A: CitizenArcane is the logical progression from email I've sent out since the dawn of the Web, containing links to interesting Websites, unbalanced commentary, and general rants and musings. Those cursed enough to receive it — probably because their admins didn't have the sense to router-block our spewage — referred to these mailings as "jacBlog". (If the guy who writes it is Jac, well, you do the math.) Some even sent me fanmail and asked when I'd start blogging. (Go figure.)
So, I concluded that if I'm going to all this trouble anyway, and if I haven't already come to the attention of the powers that be, I may as well blog it so a larger group can benefit from my finely-machined verbal cleverness. And I might even make some new friends; one never knows. (Besides, sending email to mailing lists is so nineties, anyway.)
